This work consists of two independent bibliographies: 1. A list of books and of maps in the Library of Congress on the Philippines; 2. A list of books on the same subject, prepared by Dr. Pardo de Tavera, of Manila, entitled Biblioteca Filipina.
The publication of the work in its present form is consequent upon an arrangement made between the Bureau of Insular Affairs of the War Department and the Library of Congress. The inception of the Library list dates from the acquisition of the Philippines by the United States. Soon after the capture of Manila investigations were made of the resources of the Library on the Philippines and steps taken to acquire important works and fill in gaps. The result of this undertaking is presented in Part I of this volume.
